The first generation of the Skoda Octavia cargo-passenger model was born a few years after the debut of the liftback of the same name - it debuted in 1998.

In 2000, the car underwent a planned update, having received a corrected design, an improved interior and improvements in the technical "filling", after which it remained unchanged on the conveyor until 2004, when it was replaced by a model of the next generation.

The original "release" of the Skoda Octavia Combi is a five-door station wagon of the compact category (C-segment according to European regulations), the length, width and height of which are 4513 mm, 1731 mm and 1457 mm, respectively. The wheelsets of the car "prescribe" a 2512 mm base between themselves, and its ground clearance, depending on the modification, varies from 134 to 160 mm.

Specifications. The power palette of the first incarnation of the Octavia cargo-passenger version combines a wide variety of gasoline and diesel units:

  • The first include atmospheric and turbocharged "fours" with a volume of 1.4-2.0 liters with multipoint injection, the performance of which has 75-150 horsepower and 126-210 Nm of maximum potential.
  • Among the second are 1.9-liter four-cylinder engines (including turbocharged ones), equipped with 8 valves and a Common Rail system and generating 68-130 "mares" and 133-310 Nm of possible torque.

Engines are complemented by 5- or 6-speed "mechanics" or 4-speed "automatic".

By default, the drive is front-wheel drive, but there are also all-wheel drive modifications with a multi-plate clutch that controls the transfer of traction to the rear axle wheels.

The "first" Skoda Octavia Combi is based on the "PQ34" platform with an independent McPherson-type chassis on the front axle. But the structure of the rear axle can be semi-dependent with an elastic beam or an independent multi-link (depending on the modification). The car is equipped with a rack and pinion steering complex with a hydraulic booster, and its braking system is formed by "pancakes" with ventilation in the front and "drums" or "regular discs" at the rear.

The Skoda Octavia station wagon of the original generation is distinguished by a reliable design, a high level of practicality, low maintenance costs, stable behavior on the road, good equipment, sharp handling and much more.
But it also has disadvantages - a cramped rear sofa, stiffer suspension and decent fuel consumption.
