JAC J7 is a front-wheel drive five-door mid-size liftback (aka "D-segment" by European standards), combining stylish looks, modern "apartments" and a good technical component (and all this - for relatively affordable money) ... Its main target audience - family city dwellers who want to get a really practical car without sacrificing, for example, design.

The five-door was officially presented for the first time at the end of September 2019 at one of the special events in the Middle Kingdom, moreover, under the name JAC A5, while for some markets (including the Russian one) it was renamed J7 (in order to avoid a conflict with Audi ). It is noteworthy that Daniel Gallione, who previously “painted” Alfa Romeo and Maserati models, worked on the design of the liftback.

Externally, JAC J7 "flaunts" a beautiful, elegant and sporty fit appearance - a predatory "physiognomy" with aggressively frowned headlights, a hexagonal "mouth" of a radiator grille and a raised bumper, a swift silhouette with a long hood, a dropping roofline and a small "branch" of the trunk , stylish stern with graceful lanterns interconnected by a narrow LED strip, and a massive bumper with a pair of exhaust "trunks".

This is a mid-size car with corresponding dimensions: its length extends to 4772 mm, of which 2760 mm is the distance between the wheelsets, and the width and height are 1820 mm and 1492 mm, respectively.

When equipped, the five-door weighs from 1432 to 1440 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

The interior design of JAC J7 is tailored according to modern patterns - a three-spoke multi-steering wheel with a "chubby" rim slightly flattened at the bottom, a virtual instrument cluster with a 7-inch display and a modern center console, almost entirely left to the mercy of the 10.4-inch touchscreen of the infotainment complex, which is responsible for managing most of the functions.

Inside the car, mostly solid finishing materials are used, and in the front panel specially (so to speak - "zest") inserts are used, sheathed with deliberately rough cloth (like burlap).

The interior of the car is designed to carry five people, and a sufficient supply of space is promised to the occupants of both rows.

Front mounted seats with pronounced lateral support, integrated headrests and a wide range of adjustments (in the "top" versions - electric). At the back there is a comfortable sofa with a folding armrest in the center and its own ventilation deflectors.

The mid-size liftback boasts an impressive trunk of the correct shape, the volume of which in normal state reaches 540 liters.

The second row of seats folds down in two parts into a flat area, thereby expanding the cargo space to 1650 liters.

Specifications

Under the hood of the JAC J7 is an uncontested petrol unit with a working volume of 1.5 liters with four in-line cylinders, an aluminum block, a turbocharger, direct fuel injection, a 16-valve DOHC timing belt and variable valve timing, generating 150 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 210 Nm torque at 2000-4500 rpm.

By default, the motor is mated with a 6-speed "mechanics" and drive wheels of the front axle, but as an option, the car can be equipped with a stepless Punch variator.

Design features

At the heart of JAC J7 is a "front-wheel drive" platform with a monocoque body, the power structure of which is largely made of high-strength steel grades.

On both axles of the liftback, independent suspensions with hydraulic shock absorbers, simple springs and anti-roll bars are used: in the front there are classic McPherson struts, in the back there is a multi-link architecture.

The car is equipped with rack and pinion steering with an active electric amplifier. All wheels of the five-door are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated on the front axle), working in conjunction with ABS, EBD and other electronic gadgets.
