Land Rover Defender 110 is a premium four-wheel drive five-door SUV that (according to the British automaker) combines the spirit of adventure and remarkable off-road potential inherited from its legendary predecessor ... This car is addressed primarily to wealthy middle-aged men (usually - family, with one or more children), who prefer active outdoor recreation, but do not want to sacrifice comfort or safety ...

The world debut of the second generation Land Rover Defender 110 thundered on September 10, 2019 on the catwalks of the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, and the British SUV became, if not the main one, then one of the main novelties of this event. It is noteworthy that the conceptual forerunner of the car called DC100 (Defender Concept) was first presented back in the fall of 2011 at the same place.

In general, only the name and concept have in common with the predecessor of the Land Rover Defender 2020 model year, since otherwise it has changed dramatically, but especially in technical terms - the SUV got rid of the frame and continuous axles, trying on an aluminum platform with a supporting body structure and fully independent suspensions. In addition, the car has become more modern in appearance, received a luxurious and practical interior, "armed" with modern engines and acquired a wide range of electronic "bells and whistles".

Exterior

Outside, the "second" Land Rover Defender 110 is by no means perceived as a real conqueror of rough terrain, even despite the angular shape with a number of characteristic features that refer to its predecessor - the SUV looks attractive, brutal, modern and distinctive.

The haughty front end of the five-door contains frowning headlight blocks with LED "stuffing", over which a "humped" hood hangs, and a massive bumper with an unpainted lower part, and its vertical stern boasts spectacular lanterns, a hinged spare tire on the fifth door and a neat bumper.

From the side, the car shows a monumental and balanced view with short overhangs, an almost horizontal roof "resting" on a wide C-pillar, a large glass area and rounded-square wheel arches that can accommodate wheels measuring up to 22 inches.

Dimensions and weight

In terms of its dimensions, the Land Rover Defender 110 of the second generation is a full-size SUV: its length is 5018 mm, of which the distance between the wheelsets extends by 3022 mm, the width is 2105 mm (with folded mirrors - 2008 mm), and the height does not exceed 1967 mm.

The ground clearance of the five-door with air suspension (basic equipment) in the standard position is 218 mm, and in the off-road position - 291 mm (but in an emergency it can be briefly "raised" by another 70 mm). At the same time, in the loading mode, the car body is lowered to 168 mm.

In the equipped state, the "Briton" weighs from 2323 to 2518 kg, and its total weight varies from 3150 to 3250 kg, depending on the modification. In addition to this, the SUV is capable of pulling trailers weighing up to 3500 kg.

Interior

The interior of the "second" Land Rover Defender 110 "flaunts" modern architecture and cool design - inside the car looks not only beautiful, but also noble enough. Directly in front of the driver are a weighty multifunctional steering wheel with a four-spoke rim and a fully virtual instrument cluster with a 10-inch screen (although the “base” contains a simpler “toolbox” with two analogue scales and a color display inscribed between them).

A 10-inch touchscreen of the infotainment complex flaunts in the center of the solid front panel, under which is a multifaceted tide carrying the “automatic” selector and the original air conditioning unit.

In the cabin of the "Briton" only high-quality finishing materials are used - in addition to aluminum, leather and wood, there is also magnesium (part of the front panel is made of it), wear-resistant fiber on the seats and a rubberized floor covering.

By default, the interior of a full-size SUV has a five-seat layout, but as an option it can be either six or seven. On the first row there are ergonomically profiled chairs with well-developed sidewalls, wide ranges of electric adjustments and heating, and in the "top" versions - even with ventilation and memory. In addition, an additional folding "chair" can be added at the front, which converts into a console and vice versa.

On the second row there is a comfortable sofa with a folding armrest, an almost flat floor and a sufficient supply of free space. Well, for a surcharge, the car relies on a two-seater "gallery", capable of accommodating even adults.

Luggage compartment

In the arsenal of the Land Rover Defender 110 of the second incarnation, there is a properly shaped trunk, the volume of which in the five-seater configuration is 1075 liters, but with the third row folded, this figure decreases to 916 liters (if the latter is folded, then up to 231 liters). The second row is transformed in several parts at a ratio of 40:20:40 into a completely flat floor, which brings the "hold" capacity to 2380 liters (in the seven-seater version - up to 2233 liters).

Specifications

In the Russian market, the five-door 2020 Land Rover Defender is offered with three Ingenium engines to choose from, each of which is combined with an 8-band ZF automatic transmission and a permanent all-wheel drive system with a lockable center differential (and, as an option, a rear one) and a two-stage transfer case:
