The winner in the 2013 TÜV Report vehicle reliability rating, held in Germany traditionally once a year, was the three-year-old VW Polo with 2.2 breakdowns for every hundred vehicles serviced. The second place went to Mazda 3 (2.7%), and the third to Audi Q5 (2.8%).
In total, data on the condition of 8.11 million passenger cars operated in Germany were analyzed for the report. A year earlier, 7.78 million vehicles were studied for these purposes.
Among serious breakdowns, 6.1% of cars accounted for three-year-olds against 5.1% a year earlier. Among cars under 5 years old, this figure was 10.6% (and 10.3 in 2012). Seven-year-old cars showed 17.2% of significant deficiencies in the 2013 report (2012 - 17.5%), and nine-year-old cars - 23.1% (22.2% respectively for the previous year). Passenger cars that have been in the loyal service of their owners for 11 years have an average of 27.4% of serious breakdowns (26.8% in 2012). In general, it should be noted that the general trend of growth of significant shortcomings has remained. In the TÜV Report 2013, such cars accounted for 20% of all light vehicles examined, in 2012 this figure was 19.7%, and in 1997, for example, 11.6%. But there has been a positive trend in recent years: if in 2007 the share of cars that passed technical inspection without any comments was 48.3%, then according to the 2013 TÜV report, this figure was already 55.1%.
Among the German brands in the youngest age group under three years, the leadership in the rating twice went to Volkswagen with the VW Polo (1st place) and VW Golf Plus (5th place). The TOP of the rating also includes the "Germans" Audi Q5 (3rd place) and Opel Agila (10th place). In total, in all age categories, cars made in Germany got 1 place with 21 models. But if you choose a nominee for a production brand, then Toyota will come out on top, 20 models of which were able to break into this year's reliability rating.
The main disadvantages of the cars in service were lighting problems, the operation of the braking and exhaust systems, and the number of defects in the steering also increased. The auditors noted the massive appearance of rust on older cars where the body was attached to the frame and between other body structural parts.
