In the middle of December 2015 - "it finally happened" - the conveyor production of the new "high" hatchback Lada XRAY started in Togliatti - the pre-production version of which was first presented at the end of August 2014 (as part of the Moscow Off-Road Show, for a limited circle of persons represented by representatives of dealers of the brand). A little later (in November), the general public was able to familiarize themselves with the novelty - then its final version was presented.

But the Togliatti auto giant made a real sensation back in August 2012 at the International Moscow Motor Show, presenting to the public the conceptual crossover XRAY Concept, which not only set a new design tone in the development of the Lada brand, but also served as a harbinger for the eponymous commercial vehicle.

Once again, the car flashed before the public in Moscow in August 2014 with the prefix "Concept 2", becoming much closer to the series. What came out of this is already known to everyone.

Externally, Lada XRAY looks attractive, modern and fashionable, and all thanks to the new family "shell". The high-profile front end of the hatchback is made in a memorable "X-style" with chrome "zigzags", reaching beautiful optics with integrated chains of LED running lights.

The sides of the five-door are crowned with recognizable X-shaped embossings, and a strongly inclined windshield, short overhangs and a sloping roof add a bit of dynamism to its silhouette. The "X-Ray" stern looks neat and taut due to stylish lamps of complex shape, a compact trunk lid and a bumper with a powerful overlay made of unpainted plastic.

A high B-class hatchback made in the SUV style - this is how Lada XRAY is positioned at AvtoVAZ.

The length of the car is 4164 mm, width - 1764 mm, height - 1570 mm with 2592 mm distance between the wheelsets. Its ground clearance "flaunts" a very crossover size - 195 mm in the "stowed" state (at full load - about 170 mm).

The interior of the Lada XRAY has an adult and very noble, but, most importantly, modern look. "Toolkit" is simple in architecture, but informative in fact - the devices are placed in three "wells", and on the right side there is an on-board computer display. The beautiful steering wheel with a four-spoke design has a pronounced relief, and in the "top" versions it bears the keys for controlling multimedia functions.

The front panel of the X-Ray in the central part contains a 7-inch screen of the infotainment complex, surrounded by original ventilation deflectors. Below is a miniature "climate" block, which is visually perceived somewhat "holo". But this is all in "rich" configurations, while more affordable solutions look simpler - a simple radio tape recorder and rounds of an ordinary "stove" or air conditioner.
The interior of the "off-road" hatchback is trimmed mainly with tough, but textured plastics, and the seats are dressed in pleasant fabric.

In front of the Lada XRAY, there are nice chairs with sluggish lateral support and a convex cushion, but with a large range of adjustments. The hatch has a decent number of places to accommodate small things: in the doors - voluminous pockets with cup holders, under the passenger seat - a retractable box, and under the center console - a couple of niches and a few more cup holders. The rear sofa is well-profiled and offers riders plenty of space, but nothing more.

In the standard state, the cargo compartment of the X-Ray is designed to carry 376 liters of luggage, and with the rear sofa folded down - 1382 liters. In this case, a completely flat area is obtained, and a small "underground" is hidden under the raised floor. At the very bottom lies a full-fledged 15-inch "spare", although the car is equipped with R16 wheels as standard.

Specifications. For Lada XRAY, three four-cylinder petrol "aspirated" engines have been prepared that meet the environmental requirements of "Euro-5", which are mated with two variants of gearboxes and a front-wheel drive transmission.

  • The initial version is a 1.6-liter VAZ-21129 engine with a 16-valve timing and multi-point power technology, the performance of which is 106 "horses" at 5800 rpm and 148 Nm of rotational potential at 4200 rpm. In tandem, he is assigned a 5-speed JH3 re-engineered "mechanics". From a standstill to 100 km / h, such a car rushes in 11.9 seconds, and maximum gains 170 km / h. In the combined driving cycle, fuel consumption reaches 7.5 liters for every "hundred".
  • Medium - 16-valve unit of the Renault-Nissan alliance with an internal index HR16DR with a volume of 1.6 liters, equipped with a timing chain drive, an aluminum cylinder block and distributed injection. The peak "four" produces 114 "mares" at 6000 rpm and 153 Nm of thrust produced at 4400 rpm. It is combined with the same "manual" box, providing "X-Ray" 171 km / h "maximum speed" and a starting throw to the "first" hundred in 10.3 seconds. Passport appetite - 6.9 liters of gasoline in combined conditions.
  • The "top" installation is the 1.8-liter VAZ-21176 engine, generating 122 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 173 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm, in the bins of which there are distributed fuel injection and a 16-valve timing. He has two gearboxes - 5-speed "mechanics" or "robot". With the "automated" transmission, XRAY conquers the first three-digit number on the speedometer after 10.9 seconds, and stops accelerating when reaching 183 km / h, on average "eating" 7.1 liters of fuel in mixed mode.

The base for "X-Ray" is the front-wheel drive platform "B0", borrowed from partners Renault-Nissan. The front axle of the "high" VAZ hatchback is equipped with an independent suspension with McPherson struts, and the rear axle is equipped with a semi-independent architecture with a torsion beam.
The steering gear of the five-door has a rack and pinion structure with an integrated electro-hydraulic control amplifier. On the front wheels ventilated "pancakes" of the brake system are mounted, at the rear - drum devices.
