Toyota Avalon is a full-size front wheel drive sedan (aka E-segment by European standards) and, in combination, the flagship of the Toyota passenger car line in the American market, developed by the efforts of the design studio Calty Design Research Inc. and the TMNA R&D Center (located in Michigan) ... It is addressed to people with a good income level who want to get "a lot of cars for a reasonable price" ...

The three-volume model of the next (fifth in order) generation appeared in all its glory before a wide audience in mid-January 2018 - on the stage of the International North American Auto Show, held in Detroit.

The car has changed on all fronts - it received an impressive appearance, placed an original and luxurious interior inside itself, perched on a new "cart" and acquired the widest list of modern electronic assistants.

Outside, the fifth generation Toyota Avalon looks beautiful, majestic and balanced, and from any angle.

A daring front end with frowned LED optics and a complex radiator grille, an elegant silhouette with a sloping roof that smoothly merges into the trunk “extension” and beautiful “splashes” on the sidewalls, a relief stern with sophisticated lights and a massive bumper - the exterior of the car fully corresponds to its flagship position.

It is worth noting that the sedan is offered in "sporty" XSE and Touring versions, which can be identified by a honeycomb grille, two-tone 19-inch wheels, a quartet of exhaust pipes, a spoiler on the trunk lid and black side mirror housings.

This is a three-volume full-size class (according to European standards, it belongs to the “E” segment), which is 4978 mm long, and reaches 1849 mm and 1435 mm in width and height, respectively. The distance between the pairs of wheels of the front and rear axles of the car is 2870 mm.

The interior of the "fifth" Toyota Avalon has a sleek, modern and distinctive design, and the most impressive inside the car looks like a smoothly falling center console, shaped like a ski jump, which is crowned with a 9-inch screen of the entertainment and information center and a stylish climate "control". Neither a three-spoke multi-steering wheel with a raised rim, nor an informative "dashboard" of instruments with two arrow dials and a color board of a trip computer stand out from the general picture.

The "apartments" of the sedan are finished with exceptionally expensive materials - pleasant plastics, high-quality leather, artificial suede, natural wood and metal.

One of the advantages of "Avalon" is the spaciousness of the salon. Front riders fall into the arms of ergonomic seats with well-developed sidewalls, moderately dense filler, a wide range of electrical adjustments and other "benefits of civilization." In the second row there is a comfortable sofa and a record amount of free space in the class (at least, so the automaker itself claims).

It is not reported how roomy the luggage compartment of the four-door is, but it is expected that its volume will be no less than that of its predecessor, the "hold" of which can hold 453 liters of luggage.

For Toyota Avalon of the fifth incarnation, two versions are announced (although their performance has not yet been announced, but, most likely, according to this indicator, the flagship will surpass the Camry, from which the power units are borrowed):

  • The first is a gasoline engine containing under its hood a six-cylinder "aspirated" 2GR-FKS with a working volume of 3.5 liters with a V-shaped architecture, distributed "power", 32 valves and variable valve timing at the inlet and outlet, which is combined with an 8-speed " automatic "and leading front wheels.
  • The second is a hybrid, featuring a THS II gasoline-electric complex with a 2.5-liter "four" (equipped with direct injection and 16-valve timing), a 650-volt electric motor, nickel-metal hybrid traction batteries and a continuously variable variator.

How dynamic and economical the car is is not disclosed at the moment.

The fifth "release" Toyota Avalon is built on a front-wheel drive modular platform "TNGA" with a transversely based powertrain, expanded use of high-strength steel grades in the structure, increased body rigidity and a lower center of gravity.

An independent suspension with MacPherson struts is installed on the front axle of the four-door, and a multi-link system on the rear (in both cases with anti-roll bars). "Top" modifications of the car can boast of an adaptive chassis with electronically controlled shock absorbers.

The full-size sedan is equipped with a rack-and-pinion steering system, into which an electric power steering with customizable characteristics is "implanted". All three-volume wheels are equipped with disc brakes (ventilated on the front axle) equipped with ABS, EBD and other electronic assistants.

In the United States, accepting orders for the 2019 Toyota Avalon model year will start in late spring 2018 - closer to that moment, prices will be announced.

Already in the "base" the car has: ten airbags, a multimedia center with a 9-inch screen, a rear view camera, ABS, ESP, dual-zone climate control, heated and electric front seats, LED optics, an audio system with eight speakers, Toyota Safety complex Sense P and more.
